Katherine “Rene” Pillow 86, departed this life on November 28, 2019 peacefully at her home in Sandusky, Illinois surrounded by family. She was born in Bird Point, Missouri to the union of the late Thad M. Pillow and Mary A. Douglas-Pillow.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Sandusky, Illinois under the direction of Pastor Larry G. Barnett, Sr. She served on the Usher Board, Mission Society and was a Sunday School teacher for many years during her tenure there and until her passing.
Rene had several occupations: She was employed as an elevator operator in Springfield, Illinois for several years. She worked as a short order cook in several restaurants in Cairo, Illinois with her sisters. She was also employed as a homemaker through Addus Home Healthcare for many years until her retirement in 2016.
Rene was preceded in death by her parents the late Thad M. Pillow and Mary A. Douglas-Pillow, two brothers: Henry Pillow, McCray “Bunny” Pillow, four sisters: Olean Arnold, Dora Banks, Geraldine “Sis” Williams and Ruthie Mae Pillow.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Doris Welch of Sandusky, Illinois, Charlotte (Larry) Bowden of Sandusky, Illinois, Richard (Twyla) Pillow of Springfield, Illinois, Jeffrey (Stacy) Pillow of Sandusky, Illinois, Terri Pillow of Sandusky, Illinois and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a pillar of the community and will forever be known as “Aunt Rene” and” Mother Rene” to everyone in the surrounding communities.
Services for Katherine "Rene" Pillow will be held on Saturday December 7, 2019 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Sandusky, Illinois. Friends may call on Saturday at the Church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Elder James Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Garden in Villa Ridge, Illinois. Arrangements were Entrusted to Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Illinois.
